Surprising deal between computer software giant Microsoft and gaming guru Mojang set to complete this week.
The news is out. Microsoft is set to purchase popular and insurmountable Minecraft maker, Mojang. Executives from both companies mention that this deal will benefit not just Microsoft but both companies and this deal could be worth over $2 billion.
The Wall Street Journal was the first to report about this much-awaited deal last Tuesday. Reports also say that the deal between Microsoft and Mojang is now in its final stages and could be completed as soon as this week.
And as the two companies continue to finish all the formal preparations for the sale, industry watchers have something interesting to say about this move. Experts note that the sale is quite surprising.
To remember that Markus Persson Mojang founder has evaded outside investors interested in is company. Persson was also known to be outspoken regarding other large an established companies and firms in the in the past. However for Microsoft, this is one great deal. The company can’t wait to have younger fans more interested in their Xbox gaming consoles as well as new games that will be upcoming next season. The success of Xbox is basically due to the amazing response of its young consumers. Minecraft is basically one of the most challenging build games in PC and the success of Minecraft is partly due to its young players as well.
According to the latest reports about the sale, a spokeswoman for Microsoft declined to provide any comment. Markus Persson on the other hand did not comment about the matter as well. In August 2014, Mojang was reported to hire experts and advisers to help them make up their mind about the sale. All that was revealed was that the deal will be finalized in the last week of September 2014.
It was in 2013 when Mojang marked its amazing market sales. The company has sold over 50 million copies of Minecraft in 2013. This is despite Minecraft being released in 2009. Reports also mention that profits of Mojang for last year alone were over $100 million.
Mojang has reached several licensing deals and the most notable are with Scholastic and Warner Bros. pictures.
